Melvine Malard has been named Manchester United Women's Player of the Month for April, providing a bright spot in what has been a challenging end to the season for the Red Devils.
Marc Skinner's side spent much of the campaign in second place in the Women's Super League, but a late-season slide has seen them drop out of the Champions League qualification spots. United now need a miraculous collapse from Arsenal to have any chance of finishing in the top three.
The season's promise began to fade in March when United lost their first-ever League Cup final 2-0 to Chelsea, who also knocked them out of the FA Cup. A brave Champions League quarterfinal exit to Bayern Munich followed, with United falling to two late goals in Munich after taking the lead.
Through it all, Malard has been a consistent performer. The French forward earned 50% of the fan vote in the club's official app poll, beating out goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce (31%) and Canadian full-back Jayde Riviere (19%).
Her standout moment came in the Allianz Arena, where she pounced on a defensive error from Bayern to score United's only goal and give them hope of reaching the semifinals. It was a goal that showcased her sharp instincts and composure under pressure.
Malard joins an impressive list of United's Player of the Month winners this season, which includes Jess Park (four times), Elisabeth Terland (twice), and single awards for Tullis-Joyce and Maya Le Tissier.
The French international will look to end the season on a high note when United travel to London on Saturday to face Chelsea in the final Women's Super League match of the campaign.
