The 2026 Dean Shippey Capital Diamond Classic is shaping up to be one of the most competitive tournaments in recent memory, featuring a stellar lineup of teams that includes CAAC Blue champion Okemos and CAAC Red co-leaders Mason and Williamston.

Okemos enters the tournament as one of the top seeds after a dominant regular season. The Wolves (17-4-1) went unbeaten in the CAAC Blue, successfully defending their league title, and have yet to lose to any Greater Lansing team this spring. Despite opening the season with doubleheader splits against Jackson Lumen Christi and Novi, Keagan Noble and company have found their rhythm at the perfect time.

The rest of the field is packed with talent and storylines. Reigning champion Grand Ledge will look to defend its title, while DeWitt, Haslett, Lakewood, Lansing Catholic, Mason, Portland, and reigning Division 4 state champion Portland St. Patrick round out a deep and dangerous bracket. All games will once again be played at Michigan State's McLane Stadium, a fitting venue for a tournament that showcases the best high school baseball in the region.

The action kicks off on Monday, May 18, with Haslett facing Portland at 5 p.m., followed by DeWitt against Lakewood at 7 p.m. Haslett makes its first appearance in the tournament since 2016, while Lakewood returns for the first time since 2017—both eager to make a statement.
