At 60 years old, Tom Green is proving that age is just a number—and that the gridiron is for everyone. The stage 4 kidney cancer survivor is suiting up as a freshman defensive lineman for McDaniel College in Maryland this fall, making him arguably the oldest college football player in the nation.

Green's journey to the field is nothing short of miraculous. Eleven years ago, he was battling multiple tumors that had ravaged his body, leaving him 60 pounds lighter and fighting for his life. "My blood was being eaten by the tumors," he shared. "I thought it was the end." But his recovery at Johns Hopkins stunned even his doctors, who called it a "miracle."

Now, Green is embracing a new chapter in Division III football. After putting college on hold to run a business in Pennsylvania, he finally enrolled at the small liberal arts school in Westminster, Maryland. And he's not just there to be a feel-good story—he's there to play.

His teammates have quickly embraced the veteran newcomer. "The laughter, oh I love that part," Green says. "We laugh. They act their age, and that's the best part. I love to cut up just like the rest of the guys." For him, the best moments are the simple ones: "It's great to be back in the huddle, back with the guys."

Sophomore linebacker Ashawn Mears admits he was initially shocked by Green's age, but the impact was immediate. "He's coming to play football," Mears says. "It was more motivating."
