This week's Courier Journal boys athlete of the week nominees showcase the incredible talent on Louisville-area baseball diamonds and volleyball courts. From dominant pitching performances to explosive hitting and all-around volleyball prowess, these five student-athletes have earned their spot in the spotlight.

Here's a closer look at this week's standout nominees:

Volleyball: A senior delivered a complete performance in the Fifth Region championship match on May 6, racking up 12 kills, five blocks, six digs, and two aces to lead a 25-15, 25-18, 25-21 sweep over Trinity.

Baseball: Another senior was unstoppable at the plate on May 9, going 5 for 5 with three doubles, five runs scored, and six RBIs in a 17-7 win over Fern Creek.

On the mound, a senior ace allowed just one run and two hits while striking out eight over six innings in a 7-2 victory against Oldham County on May 4.

A junior slugger made it look easy on May 7, going 3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs in a 16-1 rout of Shelby County.

Rounding out the nominees, a senior showed off his extra-base power on May 7, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, a triple, three RBIs, and two runs scored in a 14-5 win over Bullitt East.
