Norwich City will be without Scotland international Kenny McLean for their Championship season finale at Hull City, but fans can breathe easy—his World Cup hopes are firmly intact.
The 34-year-old midfielder, who has been a workhorse this season with 51 appearances across all competitions (including six for Scotland), picked up a minor injury during training. McLean, who found the net in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Swansea City, simply "blocked in a movement" and needs a few days to recover.
"I want to reassure all my Scottish friends that there is totally nothing to worry about," Norwich boss Philippe Clement assured BBC Radio Norfolk. "These things can happen. It's a pity—anyone who knows Kenny knows he wants to play every minute and train every minute also, so he's totally gutted about it. But in a few days it will be better."
The Canaries, sitting ninth in the table, may have nothing left to play for in terms of promotion, but they could still play spoiler. Hull City are locked in a fierce battle with Wrexham and Derby County for the final playoff spot, and Norwich's trip to East Yorkshire could tip the scales.
Adding to the squad's absences, young talent Oscar Schwartau will also miss the match, while defender Ben Chrisene has undergone shoulder surgery and is expected to be fully fit for pre-season preparations.
For McLean, the focus now shifts to recovery and a starring role at the World Cup this summer—where Scotland will be counting on his experience and grit.
