In a groundbreaking move for U.S. sports, the Chicago Fire and McDonald's have announced a naming-rights partnership that will see the fast-food giant's name grace a major American stadium for the very first time. Welcome to McDonald's Park—a $750 million, privately-funded, 22,000-seat soccer-specific stadium set to open in 2028.
Located in The 78, a vibrant 62-acre mixed-use development near the Chicago River in the city's South Loop neighborhood, construction on the venue kicked off in March. But this isn't just any stadium. It will feature a permanent McDonald's flagship restaurant inside, along with year-round programming that promises to keep the energy high even when the Fire aren't playing.
"Together, we are creating more than a stadium," said McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski in a news release. "We are building a place that serves up joy, brings together community, delivers impact, and is designed to serve generations to come."
The partnership extends well beyond the stadium walls. Starting in 2027, McDonald's will serve as the presenting partner for the Fire's P.L.A.Y.S. (Participate, Learn, Achieve, Youth, Soccer) Program, which provides free, school-based soccer programming in Chicago Public Schools, with a focus on elementary schools that have limited access to the sport.
Community impact is at the heart of the deal. The stadium's concessions will include donation opportunities for the Ronald McDonald House, a nonprofit that provides housing, meals, and support for families with children undergoing treatment for serious illnesses. McDonald's Park will even feature a dedicated section for Ronald McDonald House families. The Fire will also host family nights, complete with 50-50 raffles benefitting the charity, pre-match meet-and-greets, and other special experiences.
"As we take the next step on our journey to build a world class club, our commitment to Chicago is at the center of everything we do," said Fire owner Joe Mansueto. "That's why McDonald's is the perfect partner—an iconic global brand with deep Chicago roots and shared values in supporting our community. McDonald's Park will be the stadium that Chicago deserves."
For fans and families alike, this partnership serves up more than just soccer—it's a whole new playbook for community engagement and fan experience. And with a name as recognizable as the Golden Arches, the Fire are poised to light up the Windy City like never before.
