Jake McCarthy hit a grand slam and matched a career-high with five RBIs as the Colorado Rockies snapped a six-game losing streak with a 6-2 over the New York Mets on Thursday. The eighth-inning grand slam snapped a 2-2 tie and was the second home run in as many days for McCarthy, who had entered the series without a homer in his previous 22 games with at least one at-bat. McCarthy, who is hitting .354 since April 5, had previously tied the game in the sixth inning with an RBI double to center field.

Jake McCarthy delivered a performance for the ages on Thursday, smashing a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning to propel the Colorado Rockies to a 6-2 victory over the New York Mets. The win snapped a six-game losing streak for the Rockies, who were staring down the barrel of a historically bad homestand.

McCarthy, who has been on fire since early April—hitting an impressive .354—matched his career-high with five RBIs on the day. The grand slam, his second home run in as many days, broke a 2-2 tie and was a dramatic turnaround for a player who had gone 22 games without a homer before this series. The ball barely sneaked inside the right-field foul pole, and the call was upheld after a brief umpire review.

The Rockies had earlier tied the game in the sixth inning when McCarthy laced an RBI double to center field, setting the stage for his late-inning heroics. Colorado’s bullpen was equally impressive, shutting down the Mets over the final 3⅓ innings while allowing just one hit. Antonio Senzatela (2-0) earned the win with two scoreless frames, providing a much-needed lift for a team desperate to stop the slide.

For the Mets, the loss was a bitter pill to swallow. They were seeking their first sweep of the season but instead saw their hopes dashed by McCarthy’s blast. Craig Kimbrel (0-2) took the loss, seeing his ERA balloon from 3.68 to 7.56 after surrendering the grand slam. Andy Ibáñez and Tyrone Taylor each drove in a run for New York, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Rockies’ late surge.

Looking ahead, the Rockies (3-2, 3.38 ERA) will send right-hander Chase Dollander to the mound against the host Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. Meanwhile, the Mets (1-2, 2.97 ERA) will counter with righty Nolan McLean as they take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Both teams will be eager to build on—or rebound from—this pivotal series finale.
