Maya Le Tissier, the captain of Manchester United Women, has been recognized for her outstanding performances this season at the Women's Football Awards, taking home the Young Player of the Year award. It's a well-deserved honor for a player who has been the backbone of the Red Devils' campaign.

Manchester United's season started with incredible promise, with the team spending much of the time in second place in the Women's Super League and even reaching the League Cup final. However, the momentum has flickered in recent months. Currently sitting fourth in the table, United look set to miss out on Champions League qualification for next season—a bitter pill after their historic run this year.

The highlight of the campaign was undoubtedly United's debut in the Champions League. They impressed by reaching the quarter-finals, bowing out 3-5 on aggregate to Bayern Munich in a tight, hard-fought tie. That European adventure gave fans plenty to cheer about, and at the heart of it all was Le Tissier.

The 23-year-old defender has been ever-present, playing 40 times across all competitions and scoring four goals. Among those strikes was a memorable one—United's first-ever goal in the Champions League group stage, against Valerenga. She also coolly converted a penalty at Old Trafford in the quarter-final against Bayern, a moment that will live long in the memory.

As reported by The Metro, Le Tissier "led the winners at the 2026 Women's Football Awards" and has enjoyed "another standout campaign at the heart of United's defence." She continues to develop into a vital player for both club and country, and this award is a testament to her leadership and consistency.

Former Red Devil Nikita Parris, now with London City Lionesses, was also recognized, receiving the "game changer" award for her strong season in the WSL.

Le Tissier and United will wrap up their league campaign with a tough test against Chelsea on Saturday, May 16th, at 13:00 BST. It's a chance to end the season on a high note.
