The motorsport world is in mourning after a tragic accident at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in Germany. During a qualifying session for the ADAC 24h Nürburgring endurance race, a multi-car incident involving seven vehicles claimed the life of 66-year-old driver Juha Miettinen.

Race control immediately halted all activities, and despite the swift response of emergency services, Miettinen tragically passed away at the circuit's Medical Centre. The six other drivers involved were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The event was set to feature a notable participant: four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen. The Red Bull star, who often explores racing disciplines beyond F1, was preparing for a four-hour race as part of his long-term goal to compete in the full 24-hour event.

In the wake of the tragedy, Verstappen took to social media to express his condolences. "Shocked by what happened today," he wrote on Instagram. "Motorsport is something we all love, but in times like this it is a reminder of how dangerous it can be. Sending my heartfelt condolences to Juha’s family and loved ones."

All racing was suspended for the day, and a minute of silence will be held before Sunday's main event in memory of Miettinen. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the inherent risks drivers face, even as they pursue their passion on some of the world's most challenging tracks.
