The Royals are on a roll.

The Kansas City Royals are heating up at just the right time, and manager Matt Quatraro believes he knows exactly why.

After a rocky start to the 2026 season that left fans questioning whether the team could live up to playoff expectations, the Royals have suddenly flipped the switch. Monday night's 6-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians at Kauffman Stadium marked their fourth straight win and eighth in their last ten games, pushing their record to 16-19.

While that record alone doesn't scream "contender," the way this team is playing now looks nothing like the squad that stumbled through April. The early weeks were a harsh reminder that preseason optimism doesn't translate to automatic wins, but the recent stretch has completely changed the narrative around this ballclub.

"I think overall, the energy is good, the guys feel confident," Quatraro said after Monday's win. "And I think it's starting to build. Obviously there's going to be tough days at times, but these guys believe in themselves. I think that's why we're seeing a better brand of baseball."

That confidence was on full display against Cleveland. Veteran starter Michael Wacha delivered a masterful performance, needing just 79 pitches to work through seven innings. He allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out three, but it wasn't all smooth sailing from the start. David Fry tagged him for a two-run homer in the second inning, and for a moment, it felt like another rough night might be brewing.

Wacha had other plans. He retired 16 of his next 17 batters, completely shutting down the Guardians and never giving them another chance to breathe.

The offense, meanwhile, woke up in a big way during the fourth inning. A four-run frame blew the game open, starting with Bobby Witt Jr.'s fourth home run of the season. Nick Loftin followed with a clutch two-out, two-run single to push the lead to 4-2, and Jac Caglianone added a solo shot in the sixth for good measure.

Pitching inconsistency and a handful of painful losses had buried Kansas City through much of April, and it was fair to wonder whether this roster had the pieces to turn things around. But over the past two weeks, the Royals have answered those questions with energy, belief, and a brand of baseball that finally matches their potential. If this hot streak is any indication, Kansas City might just be getting started.
