When Ronda Rousey steps into the cage against Gina Carano this Saturday, fight fans might want to temper their expectations—at least according to UFC legend Matt Brown. The main event pits two women who have been out of action for a combined 27 years, making it one of the most unpredictable matchups in recent memory.

Rousey enters as the heavy favorite, and for good reason. She dominated the UFC's women's bantamweight division as champion, finishing opponent after opponent with her signature armbar before suffering back-to-back losses in her final two fights. Carano, on the other hand, hasn't fought since 2009 when she was stopped by Cris Cyborg, and she never reached the same championship heights as Rousey.

But Matt Brown sees a different story unfolding. "I think it's going to be an ugly fight for the most part," Brown said. "Here's why I'm going with Gina Carano—I think Gina's naturally a little bit bigger than Ronda. During this down time, I'm going to assume Carano probably attempted to stay in better shape, whereas Ronda I think just quit training altogether."

Brown points to Rousey's predictable style as a key factor. "Ronda is a lot more predictable. She doesn't shoot double legs. It's going to be a judo-style takedown, which is a little more predictable. She's got to get in the clinch and try to throw. If Gina does some of the basic things, she should be able to mitigate that."

Despite picking Carano, Brown isn't expecting a technical masterpiece. "It will probably be ugly as hell. Ugly as all hell. It's going to be nothing to write home about." He admits some bias, saying, "I'm a bigger fan of Carano, too."

Rousey, an Olympic bronze medalist in judo, will rely on her grappling to close the distance. But with both fighters carrying so much rust, this Saturday's bout might be less about skill and more about who wants it more. For fans looking to gear up for fight night, remember: even ugly fights need the right threads.
