Manchester United have secured a crucial boost ahead of the season's final stretch, but it comes with a bittersweet twist. Following their hard-fought qualification for next season's Champions League, the Red Devils have made a strategic decision regarding star forward Matheus Cunha.

According to ESPN Brazil, the Brazilian international will be rested for the remaining three Premier League matches to ensure he is fully fit for the upcoming World Cup. This decision was reached after a meeting between the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and United's hierarchy, prompted by Cunha's recent injury scare that sidelined him for last week's clash against Brentford.

The timing is significant. In a tense moment, with several players getting injured and causing major headaches for manager Carlo Ancelotti on the eve of the World Cup, at least there's some good news for the boss. Matheus Cunha, a regular starter for the Brazilian national team, had an adductor problem in recent days. Despite still suffering from pain, he returned to play and, with a goal, helped Manchester United win the derby against Liverpool and secure qualification for the next Champions League.

Since the main objective of the season has already been achieved, the English team will "fill in" for Ancelotti. ESPN has learned that the CBF has reached an agreement with United, who will rest the number 10 player in the last three rounds of the Premier League, so that he can fully recover to play in the World Cup.

Cunha has been nothing short of a revelation since his arrival at Old Trafford. The former Wolves ace has netted nine goals in the Premier League this season, making him United's joint-second top scorer in the competition. His impact has been particularly felt since Michael Carrick took over as caretaker head coach, with the No.10 scoring five times and registering three assists in his new left winger role.

With three games left to play and Premier League prize money still at stake, resting a key player might seem surprising. However, Carrick will now lean on Patrick Dorgu, who made his return from a long-term injury on Sunday. The caretaker boss is confident he can manage with the squad at his disposal, and this decision ensures United's star man will be ready to shine on the biggest stage of all.
