A legendary chapter in Massachusetts high school football is coming to a close. After 11 seasons at the helm, Mike Ross—the winningest coach in West Boylston Lions history—has officially stepped down as head coach.

Ross leaves behind a remarkable legacy. Over his tenure, he posted a stellar 105-22 record, good for an .827 winning percentage. But what truly sets him apart is his championship pedigree: Ross is the only coach in Bay State history to lead three different schools—North, Grafton, and West Boylston—to Super Bowl state titles. His most recent dynasty came with the Lions, who captured three consecutive MIAA Division 8 championships from 2022 to 2024, including a perfect 13-0 season in 2023.

This departure marks the second high-profile coaching exit in Massachusetts this offseason. In mid-April, Brian Lee stepped down after 21 years at King Philip Regional, fresh off leading the Warriors to the 2025 Division III state title.

The Lions finished the 2025 season with an 8-3 record and ranked No. 55 in the final Massachusetts High School Football Massey Rankings. Now, for the first time in over a decade, West Boylston will begin the search for a new leader to carry the torch.

For fans eager to follow the next chapter and keep up with scores across the state, the Rivals High School Scoreboard provides real-time updates and final results—making it easier than ever to stay connected to the action.
