The Maryland Terrapins' backcourt is set for a shakeup. Guard Isaiah Watts has entered the NCAA transfer portal, as first reported Friday, marking a significant move in the offseason carousel.
Watts, who transferred to College Park after two seasons at Washington State, saw action in 32 of the team's 33 games this past season, earning eight starts. However, his production didn't quite meet the anticipated level, averaging 4.3 points in 17.1 minutes per game while shooting 33.8% from the field and 29.3% from beyond the arc.
Despite the overall struggles, the 6-foot-3 guard showed glimpses of the scoring punch that made him an intriguing transfer. He flashed his potential with an 18-point outing against Marquette, a 17-point game versus Old Dominion, and a sharp 12-point performance on 4-of-6 three-point shooting against Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament.
Watts becomes the fourth Terrapin to enter the portal this offseason, joining freshmen Aleks Alston, Nick Blake, and Jaziah Harper. As the transfer window heats up, Maryland will now look to both retain its core and actively recruit new talent to bolster its roster for the upcoming Big Ten campaign.
