Defending MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has been sidelined for the remainder of the French Grand Prix and will also miss next week's Catalan Grand Prix after suffering a fractured foot in a crash on Saturday. The 33-year-old Ducati rider was thrown from his bike on the final lap of the sprint race at Le Mans, a dramatic moment that saw him flipped over the handlebars as his bike cartwheeled away.
The incident occurred when Marquez put his right foot down on the track just before the crash. Ducati confirmed in a statement that the Spaniard sustained a "fifth metatarsal fracture in his right foot." This injury comes at a challenging time for Marquez, who currently sits fifth in the championship standings and has yet to secure a podium finish this season.
Meanwhile, the sprint race delivered plenty of excitement for fans. Aprilia's Jorge Martin claimed the victory, cutting the gap to championship leader Marco Bezzecchi to just six points. Bezzecchi finished third, with Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia taking second place. "I love this track," said an elated Martin, who hails from Italy. "I struggled a bit in qualifying, but I knew my potential was much higher. I didn't expect to be in first position in the second corner, but from that point, I just pushed like in the past, like what I am used to."
For MotoGP enthusiasts and those following the championship battle, Marquez's absence adds an extra layer of drama to the season. As the sport's most decorated active rider, his recovery will be closely watched. In the meantime, the focus shifts to how other contenders will capitalize on this unexpected turn of events.
