The Marquette Golden Eagles are set to make some noise this weekend at the 2026 Big East Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Connecticut at the Sherman Sports Complex. Running from Thursday, May 14, through Saturday, May 16, the competition promises three days of high-stakes action. While Saturday will feature most of the running finals and the bulk of the medal ceremonies, four championships will be decided on Thursday and another 12 on Friday, setting the stage for an exciting buildup.
According to the Track & Field Results Reporting System, Marquette has a strong shot at bringing home hardware. A quick look at the top five performances in each men's and women's event across the Big East this season reveals 18 spots where Golden Eagles—either as individuals or relay teams—rank among the conference's best. That's a promising sign for fans hoping to see blue and gold on the podium.
The Golden Eagles' brightest chance for an individual title comes in the women's javelin, where Marquette could pull off an impressive 1-2 finish. Senior Riley Ward leads the conference with a school-record throw of 47.22 meters, a distance that puts her nearly 3.5 meters ahead of her closest rival. But the excitement doesn't stop there. The second-best mark in the Big East this season belongs to teammate Tessa Hollander at 43.74 meters. Interestingly, Hollander's throw broke a 17-year-old Marquette record—until Ward surpassed her with a 45.22-meter toss just a week later. This dynamic duo makes the javelin Marquette's strongest event heading into the championships.
Beyond the javelin, the Golden Eagles have several athletes sitting at third-best in the conference, putting them in contention for individual titles. Freshman Blake Frea has been turning heads in the men's 400 meters, clocking a 46.93 at the Marquette Invitational. That time places him less than a second behind the Big East leader, giving him a real shot at the top spot. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, another freshman, Andrew Klopcic, has been making waves with a 53.11 run at Georgia Tech in mid-April. With these strong performances and a few more dark horses in the mix, Marquette is poised for a memorable weekend in Connecticut.
