Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta has made it clear: the club's first choice to replace Simone Inzaghi was always Cristian Chivu, not Cesc Fabregas. "With all due respect for Fabregas, Chivu was our ideal candidate," Marotta stated, putting an end to speculation about the club's coaching search.

The timing of the coaching change was dramatic. Just hours after Inter's crushing 5-0 Champions League Final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Inzaghi informed the club he was leaving to join Al-Hilal. The Nerazzurri needed a quick, decisive move, and they found their man in Chivu.

Rumors had swirled that Inter first approached Como for Fabregas before turning to Chivu. Marotta's comments suggest otherwise—the former Inter defender was always at the top of their list. "We evaluated Chivu as the person who perfectly fit the profile," Marotta explained. "A coach is a crucial figure, and Chivu represents everything we value."

And the decision has paid off handsomely. Inter are celebrating their 21st Serie A title, their third in five years under three different coaches. For Marotta, this diversity in leadership is a badge of honor. "It means we have created a winning sporting model," he said proudly.

The Scudetto victory also marks a personal milestone for Marotta—his first title as club President, having previously served as director general during Inter's 2024 triumph. As the celebrations continue at Giuseppe Meazza, the message from the top is clear: Inter's winning formula is working, and Chivu is proving to be the perfect fit for this ambitious club.
