Can the young bats turn the corner?

The Miami Marlins entered the 2026 season with high hopes, but their recent three-game losing streak—including a tough Wednesday matchup against the Baltimore Orioles—has exposed some growing pains. While the pitching staff remains elite, the team's outlook now hinges on a young, struggling offense finding its rhythm at the plate.

Injuries have compounded the problem. Veteran power hitter Griffin Conine landed on the 10-day IL with a hamstring tear, and closer Pete Fairbanks followed suit with a thumb injury, landing on the 15-day IL. These absences have put extra pressure on the lineup to produce, but so far, the bats have been inconsistent.

Owen Caissie, acquired in a trade with the White Sox, is a key piece of that puzzle. According to ESPN's Bradford Doolittle, Caissie has struggled mightily, striking out 45 times against just six walks. "After a couple of nice early moments, his season has become a strikeout fest," Doolittle noted. "The Marlins need to get all these young-ish hitters pointed in the right direction."

The good news? The NL East is still wide open. Outside of the Atlanta Braves, no team has run away with the division. Miami has a chance to turn things around with softer matchups ahead, including a weekend series against the Washington Nationals. If the young hitters can find their form, the Marlins could climb back into contention.

But time is ticking. If the offense doesn't step up soon, the front office may face tough decisions at the trade deadline—including potentially moving one of those elite starting arms. For now, all eyes are on Caissie and the rest of the young core to deliver.
