The New York Mets have struggled offensively this season, but Mark Vientos took care of that against the Angels.

After a season of offensive struggles, the New York Mets finally found their spark—and it came in the form of Mark Vientos. The young slugger delivered a pair of two-run homers to power the Mets to a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels, giving the team a much-needed series win.

The night wasn't just about Vientos' bat. Right-hander Clay Holmes turned in a gritty performance on the mound, tossing 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball. Despite a shaky start—walking Zach Neto and Mike Trout to open the game, followed by an RBI single from Jorge Soler—Holmes settled in beautifully. He kept the Angels scoreless from there, handing the ball to Luke Weaver and Brooks Raley to close the door.

The Angels' 1-0 lead held until the fourth inning, when the Mets finally broke through. Carson Benge drew a walk and came around to score on Vientos' first two-run blast off Angels starter Jack Kochanowicz, putting New York ahead 2-1. The game stayed tight until the eighth, when Benge doubled to right to drive in Brett Baty (who had been hit by a pitch). Vientos then put the game on ice with his second two-run homer, giving the Mets a comfortable cushion.

For a team that has often turned wins into nail-biters, this one felt different. The Mets finally executed a winning formula: solid pitching, timely hitting, and clean defense. It's a blueprint they'll need to replicate if they want to climb out of the NL East cellar.

This series win—their first since taking two of three from the Minnesota Twins in late April—comes after a disastrous 12-game losing streak. The Mets now head to Colorado to face the Rockies, where snow is in the forecast. But if Vientos and the pitching staff can keep this momentum going, the Mets might just be warming up at the right time.
