In the world of Ohio high school sports, consistency and excellence are hard to beat—and Rob McCurdy of The Marion Star has proven that year after year. The veteran sports journalist has once again been named the 2025 Sports Writer of the Year for Division II by the Ohio Prep Sports Media Association (OPSMA), marking yet another milestone in a decorated career.

For context, the OPSMA divides its awards into two categories: Division I covers the state's 10 largest newspapers and all websites, while Division II includes all other newspapers that publish at least two editions per week. McCurdy's recognition in Division II places him among the best in the state for community and regional sports coverage.

This marks the fifth consecutive year McCurdy has earned the honor, and his ninth time winning it since returning to The Marion Star in 2016. In total, he has been named OPSMA Sports Writer of the Year 13 times throughout his career. When combined with his Associated Press honors, McCurdy is now a 15-time state sports writer of the year—a testament to his unwavering dedication and storytelling prowess.

While the award celebrates past achievements, the sports calendar never stops. The Mid Ohio Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships are set to begin on May 12, 2026, with field event finals and running preliminaries taking place inside Harding Stadium. It's a reminder that behind every great sports writer is the action they cover—and McCurdy will surely be there, notebook in hand, capturing the next generation of champions.
