Marion (SC) football introduces new head coach

The Marion Swamp Foxes are ready for a fresh start. After two brutal seasons that saw the program go a combined 1-19, the school has turned to a familiar face to lead the turnaround. On Wednesday, Marion High School Athletics announced the hiring of Aundres Perkins as the new head football coach.

Perkins brings head coaching experience from Pamplico's Hannah Pamplico High School, where he posted a 10-13 record from 2015 to 2016. But more than wins and losses, the Marion athletic department emphasized his leadership qualities in the announcement: "A proven leader, mentor, and program builder, Coach Perkins brings passion, discipline, and a vision for excellence both on and off the field. The mission is clear. The work starts now."

It's been a dramatic fall for the Swamp Foxes, who were not long removed from a stellar 10-2 campaign in 2023. That season was part of a five-year stretch from 2019 to 2023 where Marion won 41 games. However, the 2025 season ended with a tough 0-10 record, and the team finished ranked No. 204 in the state according to the final Massey Rankings.

Now, Perkins steps into a role with a clear mandate: restore the winning culture that defined Marion football just a few seasons ago. For a program that prides itself on teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship across all its sports—from football and basketball to baseball, soccer, and track—this hire signals a commitment to getting back on track. The Swamp Foxes are ready to roar again.
