The National Women's Soccer League's arrival in Atlanta is moving at a blistering pace. Less than a month after the initial development deal was unveiled, the future NWSL Atlanta team has cleared a major hurdle, securing a permanent home base in Marietta.
In a decisive move this week, the Marietta City Council approved the crucial rezoning requests for a 33-acre site on Franklin Gateway. This paves the way for the construction of a state-of-the-art soccer training complex, a foundational piece for the franchise set to debut in 2028.
The driving force behind the project is AMB Sports and Entertainment, the powerhouse organization owned by Atlanta sports icon Arthur M. Blank. Blank, who already owns the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United, is extending his championship-level commitment to the women's game. This facility represents a tangible step in his promise to build a world-class organization from the ground up.
"Securing this property in Marietta is a critical first step as we begin building the foundation of NWSL Atlanta 2028," Blank stated, emphasizing the importance of dedicated resources for the new club.
Plans for the complex are ambitious, calling for a world-class main facility, four full-sized pitches, and two half-fields. This investment signals a new era for professional women's soccer in the Southeast, providing athletes with the elite training environment they deserve as they prepare to compete at the highest level.
