Marco Bezzecchi has reacted to Jorge Lorenzo’s view that the 2026 MotoGP title is already his to lose, following a strong start to the season. With Le Mans on the horizon, Bezzecchi holds an 11-point lead over Jorge Martin in the championship standings.

Marco Bezzecchi has fired back at MotoGP legend Jorge Lorenzo after the three-time champion boldly declared the 2026 title is already the Italian's to lose. With the French Grand Prix at Le Mans just around the corner, Bezzecchi sits comfortably atop the championship standings with an 11-point cushion over Jorge Martin.

The VR46 rider stormed out of the gates this season, securing three consecutive Grand Prix victories before Alex Marquez finally put a stop to his winning streak at Jerez. Even then, Bezzecchi's runner-up finish in Spain proved he's no flash in the pan—it was yet another statement result in what's shaping up to be a breakout campaign.

While VR46 team boss Pablo Nieto has been quick to point to Marc Marquez as the title favorite, Lorenzo offered a very different perspective during an appearance on the Duralavita podcast. "We have only raced four Grands Prix, but for me this year, only Bezzecchi can lose the title," the Spaniard said without hesitation. It's a notable shift from Lorenzo's earlier prediction that rookie sensation Pedro Acosta would be the one to dethrone Marquez.

When reporters put Lorenzo's comments to Bezzecchi ahead of Le Mans, the 25-year-old responded with a knowing smile. "His comment is similar to those of you journalists," he joked. "Of course, I'm pleased because Jorge is one of the strongest riders ever in MotoGP. I've had the opportunity to meet him, talk to him, and even ride with him at Valentino Rossi's ranch. So I'm pleased he thinks so, but it's still very early."

Bezzecchi was quick to downplay the hype, adding: "It doesn't make sense for me to think about these things right now. I have to try to focus and do a good job on the track."

The pressure of a title fight is a different beast entirely, and this marks Bezzecchi's first real taste of championship contention in his five-year premier-class career. That inexperience at the sharp end has led some observers, including former racer Sylvain Guintoli, to question how the Italian will handle the heat if the battle extends deep into the season. It's a storyline worth watching as the championship unfolds.
