The Maplewood boys volleyball team delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday, defeating Rocky Grove in four sets (25-19, 25-19, 15-25, 25-21) in a Region 1 showdown in Franklin. After dropping the third set, the Orioles regrouped and sealed the win with a strong finish in the fourth.
Jacob Lauer led the charge for Maplewood with an impressive 16 kills and four blocks, showcasing his dominance at the net. Setter Maxx Baker orchestrated the offense with 28 assists, while also contributing five digs and two aces. Conner Ritchey added versatility with eight kills, three digs, three aces, and two blocks, and Dewey Sheetz chipped in eight kills and two digs.
The win improves Maplewood to 8-5 overall and 3-4 in region play. The Orioles will look to build on this momentum when they travel to Cochranton on Tuesday for another Region 1 matchup.
Rocky Grove, now 3-8 overall and 0-6 in the region, will aim to bounce back as they head to Mercyhurst Prep on Tuesday for their next region test.
