Manny Machado hit his 375th career homer and 200th in a Padres uniform, Ty France also went deep and San Diego beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 on Saturday. Fernando Tatis Jr. had a tiebreaking two-run single in the fifth inning to back Randy Vásquez (4-1), who gave up one run and six hits while striking out six in five innings.

In a game that showcased both power and precision, Manny Machado etched his name deeper into San Diego Padres history on Saturday, crushing his 200th home run in a Padres uniform as the team defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-2 at Petco Park.

The milestone blast—the 375th of Machado's career—came in the eighth inning off Cardinals reliever Matt Svanson, extending San Diego's lead and sending a jolt through the home crowd. Machado, who also hit 162 homers for Baltimore and 13 during a half-season stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers, continues to solidify his legacy as one of the game's premier sluggers.

But the fireworks didn't start there. Ty France kickstarted the Padres' offense in the fifth inning, launching a solo homer to center field off St. Louis starter Dustin May (3-4) to tie the game at 1-1. Moments later, Fernando Tatis Jr. delivered the decisive blow, blopping a two-run single to right field that gave San Diego a 3-1 lead.

On the mound, Randy Vásquez (4-1) turned in a solid performance, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out six over five innings. The Cardinals had taken an early lead in the fourth when Nathan Church drove in a run with an RBI double.

The bullpen drama came in the late innings. Closer Mason Miller, who has been nearly untouchable this season, worked through uncharacteristic trouble in the ninth. After walking two batters and seeing a third reach on a wild pitch, Miller escaped the jam by striking out JJ Wetherholt looking on a blistering 101 mph fastball—his fourth strikeout of the inning. The dominant right-hander has been scored on in just one of his 18 outings this season and leads the majors with 12 saves in as many opportunities.

St. Louis attempted a comeback in the eighth when Iván Herrera doubled down the left-field line off Padres reliever Adrian Morejon, scoring Wetherholt from first to cut the deficit to 3-2. But Machado's historic homer in the bottom half put the game out of reach.

The series concludes Sunday, with Cardinals right-hander Kyle Leahy (4-3, 4.93 ERA) set to face Padres righty Walker Buehler (2-2, 15.64) as San Diego looks to split the four-game set.
