Barcelona have been on a mission to snap up the brightest young talents in world football, looking to get a jump on their European rivals. But in the cutthroat world of football transfers, agents love to stir up a bidding war—and that's exactly what's happening with 18-year-old forward Juan Riquelme Angulo.

The Catalan giants have already been busy in the market. They recently tried to sign Club Brugge winger Jesse Bisiwu, but the Belgian side isn't letting go of their prized asset easily. In January, Barcelona added three promising youngsters to their ranks: Patricio Pacifico, Juwensley Onstein, and Hamza Abdelkarim. But now, they've got company in the race for Angulo.

According to Diario AS, the Ecuadorian striker is turning heads across Europe. Despite his age, Angulo has already earned six caps for Ecuador's U-17 side, scoring once, and has made 10 senior appearances for Independiente del Valle—a club famous for churning out top talent from Latin America. In just 165 minutes of senior action, he's found the net twice. That's a goal every 82.5 minutes, a rate that screams potential.

But Barcelona aren't alone in their interest. Portuguese giants Sporting CP, Benfica, and Porto are all monitoring his progress. And now, Manchester United have joined the chase. This season, Angulo also earned a call-up to the senior Ecuadorian national team under manager Sebastian Beccacece, adding to his growing reputation.

So, what makes Angulo so special? For starters, his size. At 193 cm (6 foot 3), he's already drawing comparisons to Manchester City's Erling Haaland. But he's not just a towering presence—he combines that frame with sharp technical ability in front of goal and surprising speed for his height. It's a rare mix that has scouts buzzing.

Interestingly, Barcelona's Director of Football, Deco, seems to have a type. He recently brought in Abdelkarim from Egypt, a player with a similar physical profile, to bolster the youth squad. Barcelona have an option to make that deal permanent for around €3 million, potentially rising to €5 million. Could Angulo be next?

For now, the race is on. With Manchester United and several top Portuguese clubs circling, Barcelona will need to act fast if they want to add this Haaland-like prospect to their ranks. One thing's for sure: Angulo's stock is only going up.
