Kobbie Mainoo's late goal helped Manchester United overcome a blown two-goal lead to seal UEFA Champions League qualification with a 3-2 win over rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.

In a pulsating Premier League clash at Old Trafford, Manchester United secured their place in next season's UEFA Champions League with a dramatic 3-2 victory over fierce rivals Liverpool. The Red Devils looked to be cruising after a blistering start, but had to dig deep after seeing their two-goal lead evaporate in a chaotic second half.

The match exploded into life early on, with Matheus Cunha breaking the deadlock in just the 6th minute. Benjamin Sesko doubled United's advantage in the 14th minute, sending the home crowd into raptures and suggesting a comfortable afternoon ahead for Erik ten Hag's men.

But Liverpool, showing the resilience that has defined their campaign, stormed back after the interval. Dominik Szoboszlai pulled one back in the 48th minute with a stunning solo run, driving 60 yards before cutting past Harry Maguire and slotting the ball through Diogo Dalot's legs. The visitors were level just eight minutes later when a defensive mix-up gifted Cody Gakpo a simple finish.

With the momentum firmly in Liverpool's favor, it took a moment of magic from 21-year-old Kobbie Mainoo to decide the contest. The young midfielder, who had been impressive throughout, pounced on a loose ball at the edge of the box, threaded his pass through a crowd of defenders, and watched it nestle inside the far post in the 77th minute.

United had chances to extend their lead, with Bruno Fernandes continuing his hunt for a record 20th assist. His free kick found Casemiro, but the Brazilian's header was comfortably gathered by Liverpool goalkeeper Freddie Woodman. Fernandes also created opportunities for Sesko, only for Woodman to deny the striker on multiple occasions.

The result caps a remarkable turnaround for United, who had to overcome not just their rivals but also their own second-half wobble. For Liverpool, the absence of key attacking stars like Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, and Hugo Ekitike was keenly felt as they struggled to find a cutting edge in the final third despite improved play after going two goals down.

As the final whistle blew, Old Trafford erupted in celebration, knowing their team would be mixing with Europe's elite once again next season.
