Manchester City are making serious moves to secure one of Germany's most exciting young talents—and they've got a clever plan to work around Premier League restrictions.

Kennet Eichhorn, the 16-year-old sensation at Hertha Berlin, has taken the 2. Bundesliga by storm in the 2025/26 season. Playing at a level that defies his age, the midfielder has become a key figure for the club, catching the eye of Europe's elite. With a release clause of just €10-12 million, it's no surprise that Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and RB Leipzig are all circling.

But here's the catch: English clubs can't register players from Europe until they turn 18—and Eichhorn won't hit that milestone until July 27, 2027. That hasn't stopped Manchester City, though. According to Florian Plettenberg, Pep Guardiola is personally involved in the pursuit. City's plan? Sign Eichhorn and immediately loan him out to Bayer Leverkusen, where he can continue developing in the Bundesliga while waiting for his 18th birthday.

It's a bold strategy that echoes City's previous success with German talent—Leroy Sané worked out pretty well, after all. But questions remain. Would Eichhorn really choose a crowded City midfield over a direct path to first-team football in Germany? And would a loan to Leverkusen truly benefit everyone involved?

For Leverkusen, the deal feels one-sided. Eichhorn has outgrown the 2. Bundesliga, but stepping into a Champions League-chasing side isn't guaranteed regular minutes. Plus, the last City loan to Leverkusen—Claudio Echeverri—ended prematurely when the Argentine cut his stint short in frustration.

For now, Eichhorn holds all the cards. With top clubs across Europe lining up, his decision will shape not just his career, but the transfer strategies of some of football's biggest spenders. One thing's for sure: wherever he ends up, this young midfielder is destined for the spotlight.
