It all comes down to this. After 37 hard-fought matches—kicking off with a 1-0 win over St Mirren way back in August—the 2025/26 Premiership title will be decided in one final, explosive showdown at Celtic Park. The stage is set for a classic: Scotland’s top two teams, with everything on the line.

A victory for Celtic would seal their fifth consecutive league crown, a testament to their dominance. But standing in their way are Hearts, who haven’t tasted title glory since 1960. For them, a draw is enough to end that 66-year drought—and you can bet they’ll be fighting for every inch.

This season has been a rollercoaster for the Hoops, especially with Martin O’Neill back in the dugout for his second spell. The Irishman has a shot at his first league title since 2004, when he last led the club. Speaking in his pre-match press conference at Lennoxtown, O’Neill couldn’t hide his excitement.

“It’s been a privilege to come back,” he said. “I never thought in a million years this could happen, so I should probably enjoy it more than I am. We’re really looking forward to it—why wouldn’t we? It’s a massive game. Naturally, we have to win. Hearts don’t, so the advantage is with them in that regard, but we’ll be going out all guns blazing.”

O’Neill pointed to a turning point in the season: the game against Dundee United at Tannadice. “Since then, we’ve woken up. We’re a better side now, with more confidence. If you’d told me after Tannadice that we’d have to win every game, I’d have thought it was a tall order. As it turns out, we’ve had to do exactly that.”

The manager is confident his players are ready for the moment. “They’ve had things their own way in recent times, but now they’ve had to fight—and they’ve shown up. The game’s in the balance. We’re at home, we have to win. Hearts just need to avoid defeat. It’ll be tough for both teams.”

Of course, no title decider comes without drama. Controversy has been swirling since Wednesday night, when a late penalty gave Celtic a 3-2 win over Motherwell to set up this clash. But for O’Neill, the focus is clear: “It was a penalty, and now we’re here. The atmosphere at Celtic Park will be electric. This is what football is all about.”
