Manchester United fan groups have voiced their frustration after a controversial decision regarding the venue for the upcoming FA Youth Cup final against Manchester City—a match that marks the first Manchester derby in the competition's final since 1986.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that the highly anticipated clash will take place at the Joie Stadium, a training ground facility with a capacity of just 7,000 spectators. As the designated home side, City had initially been expected to host the game at the Etihad Stadium, but an agreement on the date and time could not be reached between the two rivals.

The decision has sparked widespread criticism, especially given that United reportedly offered to move the match to Old Trafford—a venue that welcomed over 67,000 fans the last time the club featured in an FA Youth Cup final. However, City declined the offer, insisting on maintaining their home advantage.

Now, fan groups—including the Manchester United Supporters' Trust—have issued a joint statement condemning the outcome. "The news that the FA Youth Cup Final, a great fixture which has heralded so many superstars of the future, is to be played in a stadium of just 6,000 people is a disgrace," the statement reads.

"Last time United were in the final we had 67,000 fans in Old Trafford, so allowing this massive game to be played in front of such a paltry few fans is letting down supporters and denying these young footballers the biggest night of their careers so far."

The statement calls for the FA to step in and ensure the game can be played at either the Etihad or Old Trafford, adding, "Time to put fans first for once."

Adding to the frustration, it has emerged that United have been given a miserly allocation of just 968 tickets—a stark contrast to the thousands who would have filled a larger venue. With both clubs' academy stars set to take center stage, many feel this decision undermines the prestige of a competition that has launched countless football legends.
