Pep Guardiola is bracing for a battle against fatigue as Manchester City prepare to face Chelsea in Saturday's FA Cup final, with the Spanish tactician admitting his squad's grueling schedule could hand the Blues a crucial advantage at Wembley.
City head into the showpiece event still fighting for Premier League glory, sitting just two points behind leaders Arsenal with two games remaining. But Guardiola's men must first navigate a cup final against a Chelsea side desperate to salvage a turbulent season by ending their domestic trophy drought.
"After the FA Cup, it's Bournemouth—we play every three days. Chelsea have a week at home training, preparing for the final," Guardiola explained. "We have to travel to London. They will be at home with their wife and kids. So that is fatigue, fatigue, and fatigue."
The City boss rotated his squad for Wednesday's 3-0 win over Crystal Palace, resting key stars like Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, and Jeremy Doku on the bench. The decision paid off, with Savinho, Antoine Semenyo, and Omar Marmoush stepping up to deliver a vital victory that keeps City's title hopes alive.
"I have full confidence in all the squad, including the ones that didn't play against Palace. They are so good," Guardiola said. "I thought we needed more energy. Savinho, Antoine, and Omar were really good. Now we rest and focus on the final."
City are making history by appearing in the FA Cup final for a fourth consecutive season, though they've fallen short in the last two—losing to Crystal Palace in 2025 and Manchester United two years ago. Guardiola has lifted the trophy twice before, in 2019 and 2023, and a third triumph would mark his 20th piece of silverware since arriving at the Etihad a decade ago.
With just one year left on his contract and uncertainty swirling around his future, the 55-year-old is focused on the present. For now, he's relishing one more trip to Wembley, where City will look to add another chapter to their storied cup run—and perhaps silence the fatigue narrative once and for all.
