Manchester City cruised to another commanding 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace, marking their ninth Premier League win by that exact scoreline this season. It's a stat that speaks volumes about the defensive solidity and attacking precision Pep Guardiola has instilled in his squad.
Speaking to BBC's Match of the Day, Guardiola acknowledged the challenge Palace presented. "We had to work, but Palace worked harder. We were better," he said. "A tough team to break down because they defended incredibly well."
The breakthrough came from the kind of individual brilliance that defines champions. Guardiola singled out Phil Foden for special praise after the young star delivered two assists in the first half alone—a feat he hadn't achieved since December 2023. "These types of games, they play the low block. It is the talent for the wingers that makes the difference. And Phil is full of it in his body," Guardiola added. "Incredible runner and fighter. In the final third, an incredible spark. I am beyond happy and satisfied."
Guardiola also highlighted the impact of his substitutes, noting that Rayan Cherki and Mateo Kovacic brought fresh quality off the bench. "Rayan has incredible quality coming from the bench and making an impact. Kovacic and him make an impact."
The manager made six changes to his starting XI—as many as in City's previous five league matches combined—showing the depth and rotation that keeps his squad fresh during the title run-in. With only Erling Haaland (26 goals) and Igor Thiago (22) having scored more Premier League goals this season, City's firepower remains formidable.
On the title race, Guardiola remained realistic but defiant. "Depends on them [Arsenal]. If they win two games—nothing to do, nothing to talk. All we can be is in there just in case. The last two games are tough."
Looking ahead to the FA Cup final, the message was clear: respect the opponent, but believe in the process. "The FA Cup, incredible respect. We lost the last two times because we were not good enough. We are going to go there to win. We have to be ready physically and mentally against a team who are not in the best season, but the quality is there."
