When it comes to bouncing back from adversity, New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers is no stranger to the grind. The dynamic pass-catcher recently underwent a second knee surgery this off-season—a cleanup procedure to remove scar tissue—according to a source familiar with the operation. While the Giants are optimistic that Nabers will be ready for their Week 1 showdown against the Dallas Cowboys on September 13 at MetLife Stadium, no definitive timeline has been set for his return.

This latest procedure follows a challenging 2025 campaign for Nabers, who tore the ACL in his right knee during a September 28 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. The injury sidelined him for the remainder of his second season, cutting short what had been a promising start. In just four appearances that year, he hauled in 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns.

Let's not forget his breakout rookie season in 2024, when Nabers was selected sixth overall in the NFL Draft and immediately made his mark. He earned a Pro Bowl nod after catching 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven scores, showcasing the kind of explosive playmaking that had Giants fans dreaming big. That form was a major reason New York's offense ranked 13th in the league last season, even as injuries piled up for quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo.

Dr. Daniel E. Cooper, a renowned knee specialist, performed the initial surgery on October 28, which also included a full meniscus repair. The second surgery, a less invasive cleanup, is aimed at ensuring Nabers' knee is fully ready for the rigors of NFL action. For a player whose speed and route-running are his calling cards, every step of this recovery matters.

With Nabers on the mend, the Giants' wide receiver room has seen some changes. Wan'Dale Robinson, who led the team with 92 catches for 1,014 yards and four scores last season, signed a lucrative four-year, $78 million deal with the Tennessee Titans this off-season. That leaves Darius Slayton, off-season additions Darnell Mooney and Calvin Austin III, and 2026 third-round pick Malachi Fields as the top targets heading into training camp.

For Giants fans, the hope is that Nabers' second surgery is just a minor setback on the road to a full recovery. If he can return to his rookie form, New York's offense could be a force to be reckoned with in 2026. Until then, all eyes are on the rehab process—and that Week 1 date with Dallas.
