Notre Dame’s run-heavy approach and quarterback play slowed Fields’ production somewhat but his tape was filled with impressive moments. He’s best suited for an offense that allows him to get from Point A to Point B while using his frame/ball skills to dominate the work space and win in the air. He can be a slow starter versus press and lives on contested targets, but he moves the chains on tight-window throws and consistently tilts 50/50 balls in his direction outside the numbers. Fields might never be a star, but his traits, playing style and ball skills should make him a productive WR2 in time.
Bleacher Report: Malachi Fields is a talented playmaker who fits the profile of a prototypical X-receiver. The combination of size, strength, and athleticism makes him a difficult receiver to defend.
The Giants need to build around Jaxson Dart. They took a step in that direction on the offensive line Thursday with their selection of Miami's Francis Mauigoa. Receiver is a need, though, and the Giants got one on Day 2.
The Giants set out wanting to add weapons for Dart in the NFL Draft. They didn't get a chance early, with Carnell Tate (Titans) and Jordyn Tyson (Saints) going off the board early in the first.
So they waited. Waited. And waited some more. They traded Nos. 105 and 145 in the third round, and a 2027 fourth-round pick, to get back in. At No. 74, New York selected Fields.
