Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles will forever be a Philadelphia legend, having led the Eagles to their first Lombardi Trophy. Now, nearly a decade later, that iconic No. 9 jersey is finally coming out of retirement.
Eagles first-round pick Makai Lemon announced Thursday that he will wear No. 9 this season, breaking a long-standing tradition of leaving the number untouched since Foles's heroics. The wide receiver revealed he received a personal phone call from Foles himself, who gave his blessing for Lemon to carry on the legacy.
"I'll represent the nine well," Lemon told reporters, via Olivia Reiner of the Philadelphia Inquirer, showing the respect and responsibility he feels for the number.
Selected with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, Lemon arrives in Philadelphia with impressive credentials. The former USC standout won the 2025 Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver after a dominant final college season, hauling in 79 catches for 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns.
For Eagles fans, seeing No. 9 back on the field will evoke memories of that magical 2017 playoff run. But with Lemon's explosive playmaking ability, this new chapter could be just as exciting. Whether you're celebrating the past or looking to the future, show your Eagles pride with gear that honors both legends.
