When football brings old friends together, the result is often a story worth telling—and that's exactly what we have this weekend in the Women's Super League. London City Lionesses manager Eder Maestre is set to face off against Aston Villa boss Natalia Arroyo, a woman he describes as a "very important person in his life."

This isn't just any matchup. Maestre served as Arroyo's assistant at Real Sociedad for three seasons, and the bond they formed runs deep. "I spent maybe some of my best years in my professional career with her," Maestre shared. "It was amazing. She is a friend, and I'm very excited to face her."

The reunion takes place at Bromley this Saturday, as the Lionesses host Villa in their final WSL game of the season. For Maestre, this moment is about more than tactics or table position—it's personal. "I really appreciate all the things and all the information that was around me. She put me in a good place to gain my contract with CD Tenerife Femenino," he said. "It's something that I am always going to be very pleased about, and I am going to take advantage of the situation to say thank you to her in front of everybody."

But don't expect any favors on the pitch. Maestre knows Arroyo has evolved her style since their time together in Spain. "She is doing different things at Villa than she was at Real Sociedad," he noted. "I know her very well. We have to be ready, but I think Aston Villa has this kind of entity. They manage the game quite well."

Both teams have had solid campaigns. London City Lionesses sit seventh in the WSL table, four points clear of Aston Villa in eighth. For Maestre, the challenge is clear: "I can see some recognisable patterns. It's going to be very exciting. For me, it's going to be a very special experience facing her this Saturday."

Whether you're a fan of the Lionesses, Villa, or just great sportsmanship, this is one matchup that promises emotion, respect, and high-level competition—the perfect way to wrap up the season.
