Luka Dončić has finally broken his silence. For the first time since suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain over a month ago, the Lakers' superstar spoke to the media—and he didn't hold back on the emotional toll of being sidelined.
The injury, which occurred during a tough loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 2, initially carried a recovery timeline of four to six weeks. But as the playoffs heat up, Dončić admitted the reality is much tougher than expected.
"It's very frustrating," Dončić told reporters at the team hotel. "I don't think people understand how frustrating it is. All I want to do is play basketball, especially this time. It's the best time to play basketball."
While the Lakers have shown grit without him—upsetting the Houston Rockets in the first round and pushing the Thunder in Game 2 of the second round—their offense has clearly struggled. They haven't cracked 107 points in regulation during any playoff game this year, a glaring reminder of what they're missing.
Dončić also revealed that his initial diagnosis was more severe than the standard Grade 2 strain. "The day I did the MRI on the hamstring, the doctor told me eight weeks recovery at the beginning," he shared. "I'm doing everything I can in the process, and I think we're on a good way."
Nearly five weeks post-injury, Dončić has started running but hasn't engaged in any contact work yet. To speed up his recovery, he traveled to Spain for multiple PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections—a treatment known for its effectiveness in muscle healing. "I went to Spain to do PRP. Obviously, everybody knows that it's one of the best countries to do that," he explained.
For now, Dončić can only watch as his teammates battle without him. For fans and athletes alike, this serves as a powerful reminder: even the brightest stars need time to heal—and the right recovery gear can make all the difference. Whether it's compression sleeves, supportive footwear, or recovery tools, having the right equipment is key to getting back on the court stronger than ever.
