Manchester United face a midfield crisis ahead of their clash with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, with key players Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte ruled out. The club's official X account confirmed the starting lineup for the 15:00 UK time kickoff, leaving fans stunned to see both the Brazilian and Uruguayan absent from the matchday squad.

According to The Sun's correspondent Samuel Luckhurst, Casemiro is not fit enough to feature in today's contest. However, there's good news on the horizon—the former Real Madrid star is expected to be available for his Old Trafford swansong next week. "Casemiro not ready today but club expect him to be back for next week," Luckhurst posted on his X account.

The midfield woes deepen with Ugarte's absence. The Uruguayan, typically seen as Casemiro's natural replacement, suffered a knock in training. "Ugarte sustained a problem in training," added Luckhurst, leaving United's engine room looking thin.

To fill the gaps, the club has called up Darren Fletcher's twins, Jack and Tyler. The 19-year-old duo will start on the bench, offering youthful energy if needed. With United already securing their Champions League spot for next season, these remaining fixtures carry less pressure, but the team still aims to finish strong.

Manager Michael Carrick has adapted by deploying a 'light' midfield duo, with Bruno Fernandes dropping deeper to partner Kobbie Mainoo. This shift opens the door for Mason Mount, who seizes a starting role as an attacking midfielder. The former Chelsea star will look to make an impact, adding creativity to a reshaped lineup.
