LSU soars into Top 10 of team recruiting rankings after 5-star commitment

LSU football fans have plenty of reasons to celebrate this week. The Tigers have officially crashed the Top 10 of the team recruiting rankings, and it's all thanks to a massive commitment from one of the nation's most sought-after prospects.

Ruston, Louisiana's own Ahmad Hudson—a towering 6-foot-6, 230-pound five-star tight end—shocked many by announcing his pledge to LSU on Sunday afternoon. Hudson, who is also a highly recruited basketball standout, had previously hinted at a July decision, but the pull of staying home proved too strong to wait. He ultimately chose the Tigers over Nebraska, a decision that sent shockwaves through the recruiting world.

Hudson's commitment didn't just add star power to the roster; it propelled LSU up five spots to No. 7 in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. In a single move, the Tigers leapfrogged powerhouse programs like Miami, UCLA, Notre Dame, Georgia, and Florida. For a team with just five total commits this cycle, that kind of surge is nothing short of remarkable.

"When you speak to a head coach, it shows how much they care about you," Hudson told Rivals' Sam Spiegelman. "Coach Kiffin was texting me before the state championship game, wishing me good luck. Not a lot of people like that have the time to really do that, so that shows that he took time out of his busy day as the head coach of Louisiana State University to wish me good luck. It's just different."

Keeping a five-star talent like Hudson in the Boot State is a monumental win for Lane Kiffin and his staff. But the Tigers' recruiting momentum doesn't stop there. Last month, LSU landed two more blue-chip prospects: Fort Lauderdale's Ah'Mari Stevens, a four-star wide receiver who flipped from Miami, and Cecilia, Louisiana's Braylon Calais, a four-star athlete ranked No. 185 nationally.

Calais echoed Hudson's sentiments about the personal touch from the coaching staff. "They've definitely been on me," Calais said. "Knowing I'm the top athlete in Louisiana, I'm high on their board. The pressure on me has been drastically increasing with Coach Lane Kiffin hitting me up. They're showing love all over the place."

With official visit season just around the corner, the Tigers are poised for a big May. Landing a five-star often acts as a catalyst for momentum, and LSU already has another five-star in the fold—Irmo, South Carolina's top-tier talent who committed back in January. For a team with only five commits, the quality of this class is already turning heads. If this is just the beginning, LSU fans should buckle up for an exciting ride.
