BATON ROUGE – For the first time since opening weekend of the 2026 season, LSU baseball has its sights set on a series sweep. The Tigers are back at Alex Box Stadium Sunday for the finale against South Carolina, looking to cap off a dominant weekend and build momentum for the postseason.
LSU (27-21, 8-15 SEC) took both games of Saturday's doubleheader against the Gamecocks, securing their first SEC series victory in a month. The Tigers outscored South Carolina 13-3 over 18 innings, with freshman leadoff hitter Mason Braun setting the tone at the plate. Braun reached base in six of his nine at-bats, driving in three runs and scoring three times—a spark that energized the lineup and the home crowd.
South Carolina (22-26, 7-16) struck first in both games Saturday, scoring in the first inning each time, but the Tigers responded quickly. LSU weathered the early adversity, took the lead, and never looked back—a sign of the resilience the team has been building all season.
As for Sunday's starter, LSU head coach Jay Johnson has yet to make an official announcement. However, it's likely that senior Zac Cowan will get the nod. Johnson told reporters after Saturday's second win that sophomore Casan Evans would not be available to pitch in the series finale, leaving Cowan as the probable choice to close out the sweep.
With a sweep in reach, the Tigers have a chance to make a statement—not just in the SEC standings, but as a team finding its stride at the perfect time. Follow along for live updates from Alex Box Stadium as LSU looks to finish the job.
