The Louisville football community is mourning the loss of one of its all-time greats. Former Cardinals quarterback Browning Nagle passed away on Friday at the age of 57 after a battle with colon cancer.

Nagle's legacy is forever tied to the 1990 season, where he engineered one of the most memorable campaigns in program history. Leading Louisville to a stellar 10-1-1 record, he cemented his place in Cardinal lore with a legendary performance in the Fiesta Bowl. Against a powerhouse Alabama team, Nagle was named MVP after throwing for a bowl-record 451 yards and three touchdowns in a stunning 34-7 victory.

His standout college career paved the way for the next level. Nagle was selected 34th overall by the New York Jets in the 1991 NFL Draft, where he spent four seasons before concluding his professional career with stints in Indianapolis and Atlanta.

The news prompted an outpouring of respect from the Louisville family, including current head coach Jeff Brohm, who succeeded Nagle as the Cardinals' starting quarterback. Brohm took to social media to honor his predecessor, calling him "a true Cardinal great" and extending prayers to Nagle's wife, Michelle, and his entire family.

Browning Nagle's powerful arm and leadership on the field created indelible memories for Cardinal fans. He will be deeply missed, but his contributions to Louisville football will always be celebrated.
