Louisiana's LHSAA softball postseason kicked off this weekend with the state's various divisions contesting the bi-district playoffs.

There were few upsets as many of the top seeds had byes to the second round, and the remaining higher seeds mostly dominated. The only lower seeds to advance out of the first round came in the Non-Select brackets in Division II and Division III while the higher seeds all advanced in Division I and Division IV.

In Division II, the #17 DeRidder [LA] Dragons beat the #16 Minden [LA] Crimson Tide, 8-5, and the #19 Eunice [LA] Battling Bobcats beat the #14 Jennings [LA] Bulldogs, 7-5. Then in Division III, the #17 Church Point [LA] Bears beat the #16 Red River [Coushatta, LA] Bulldogs, 16-0, while the #20 Vidalia [LA] Vikings beat the #13 Caldwell Parish [Columbia, LA] Spartans, 16-2, in the biggest upset.

Louisiana has two teams ranked in the national Top 50 in the latest MaxPreps rankings.

The Walker [LA] Wildcats are the No. 49 team in the country, and they took the weekend off with a bye. They'll face the #16 Central [Baton Rouge, LA] Wildcats, a 12-2 winner over the #17 Southside [Youngsville, LA] Sharks. That game is set for Tuesday, April 21, at Walker.

The Calvary Baptist Academy [Shreveport, LA] Cavaliers are the state's top-ranked team, checking in at No. 3 nationally. They earned a first-round bye, but they'll be back in action Tuesday, hosting the Fisher [Lafitte, LA] Gators, a 26-1 winner over the Metairie [LA] Park Country Day Cajuns this weekend.
