From Barcelona to Stockport and a second Wembley final - the rollercoaster career of "wonderkid" Louie Barry.

From the hallowed turf of Barcelona's La Masia to the gritty battlegrounds of League Two, Louie Barry's football journey has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride. The 22-year-old "wonderkid" is now writing his latest chapter—one that leads straight to Wembley Stadium for the second time this season.

"It felt unbelievable, something I've never felt before," Barry said after scoring a stunning curling opener in Stockport County's 2-0 League One play-off semi-final second-leg victory over Stevenage. That goal, which helped secure a 3-0 aggregate win, sent the Hatters marching to the national stadium. "I've scored important goals before in the league but I've never scored in the play-offs, it means a lot to me," he added.

This moment marks one of the high points in a career that began with extraordinary promise. Seven years ago, at just 16, Barry was hailed as "one of the best young players in English football" when he secured a dream move to Spanish giants Barcelona. The West Bromwich Albion academy star couldn't resist the chance to train at La Masia—the legendary academy that produced icons like Lionel Messi, Lamine Yamal, and Andres Iniesta.

But after just 10 youth-team appearances in Catalonia, Barry returned to the Midlands. Aston Villa paid a €1 million fee (around £880,000) to bring him home, with academy manager Mark Harrison declaring, "It sends a powerful message about the ambition of this football club."

Since then, first-team chances at Villa have been rare—though Barry boasts a perfect 100% goals-to-games ratio for the senior side. Instead, his path has been defined by nine loan spells, including three stints with Stockport County. This season alone, he featured in the Vertu Trophy final loss to Luton Town at Wembley a month ago, and now he's heading back for the League One play-off final.

From scoring against Premier League champions to playing in the smallest League Two venues, Barry's journey is a testament to resilience. As he prepares for another Wembley showdown, one thing is clear: this "wonderkid" is still writing his story—one unforgettable moment at a time.
