In the high-octane world of MotoGP, sibling rivalries can be both a blessing and a curse. Team boss Nadia Padovani recently shed light on a fascinating dynamic within the Gresini garage: Alex Márquez's struggle to find his own identity while riding in the shadow of his legendary brother, Marc Márquez.

Alex had finally begun to find his footing in MotoGP after a challenging stint with Honda. His move to Ducati with Gresini in 2023 was a breath of fresh air, allowing him to settle into the premier class and show flashes of his true potential. But everything changed when Marc joined the team in 2024.

Marc, coming off an incredible run with Honda, wasted no time adapting to the Ducati. His immediate speed and championship-caliber performances—finishing third in the standings—set a towering benchmark. Meanwhile, Alex, despite securing his best-ever championship result at eighth, found himself trapped in a familiar pattern: trying to emulate his brother's approach rather than trusting his own instincts.

"Having both brothers on board has certainly been very important for the team," Padovani explained. "Yes, the team has grown because Marc is an incredible professional, and he's been that way right from day one. When we did the tests in Valencia in '23 when he joined us, that's when we saw him in action as a rider with us. When he came into the pits, he started talking about what he'd felt and what he hadn't felt. I mean, you can tell when someone is very professional, very perceptive and gives you incredible feedback."

But that same professionalism created an unintended challenge for Alex. According to Padovani, "It's clear that Alex, despite being his brother, felt the pressure of trying to follow the same path. He began to lose his way by trying to imitate Marc's style instead of focusing on his own strengths."

The turning point came when Alex realized he needed a fresh start—a chance to build confidence without constant comparisons. His move reunited him with long-time friend Luca Marini and placed him under new management, giving him the space to rediscover his own racing DNA. It was only when he stepped back and embraced his unique approach that things began to change.
