Just four months ago, a heartbroken Lorenzo Musetti walked off Rod Laver Arena in tears, withdrawing from his AO quarter-final against Novak Djokovic while leading 6-4, 6-3, 1-3; a moment that crushed both fans and the Italian star himself. However, redemption has arrived at the Foro Italico at last, where Musetti battled through pain against Francisco Cerundolo.

Four months ago, Lorenzo Musetti left Rod Laver Arena in tears, forced to withdraw from his Australian Open quarterfinal against Novak Djokovic while leading 6-4, 6-3, 1-3. It was a gut-wrenching moment for the Italian star and his fans alike. But redemption has a way of finding those who never stop fighting, and at the Foro Italico, Musetti finally got his moment.

In an emotional third-round clash at the Italian Open, Musetti battled through pain and cramps to defeat Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo 7-6(7), 6-4. As the final point landed, the tears returned—but this time, they were tears of triumph. "Suffering from the beginning," Musetti admitted afterward. "I was expecting a tough match. And it was a really tough match with a friend."

The match was a test of nerve and endurance from the start. Cerundolo, the No. 25 seed, came in confident after a dominant win over Alejandro Tabilo. But against Musetti, every point felt like a war. The first set hinged on a tense tiebreak, where Musetti held his nerve under pressure. He carried that momentum into the second set, closing it out to punch his ticket to the fourth round.

Playing on home soil brought an undeniable lift. "He can play really, really well on this surface. Of course, I had the crowd as an advantage, and I think I dealt with that pretty well," Musetti said. Still, he acknowledged the physical toll. "I managed to finish with some… not really 100% condition… but already thinking about resting and playing the next match."

When asked if "not 100% condition" referred to health or something else, Musetti clarified: "No, no. I was talking about the physical condition. I started cramping. It wasn't easy for me to find a way to deal with that, but in the end, I think I managed to stay there and to fight. That was the only key of today."

Physical challenges have been a recurring theme for Musetti in high-stakes matches. Last year, he retired against Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 French Open due to a left leg injury. Earlier this year in Melbourne, he survived a five-set thriller against Tomáš Macháč before injury forced him out against Djokovic.

But on Sunday in Rome, Musetti showed that resilience can rewrite the story. For fans of the sport, it's a reminder that the journey isn't always smooth—but the fight is what makes victory sweet. Whether you're chasing a Grand Slam or just hitting the courts for fun, gear that moves with you—and keeps you comfortable through every battle—makes all the difference. From moisture-wicking tops to supportive footwear, the right apparel helps you stay in the game, no matter how long it lasts.
