The Loons' home struggles continued Wednesday night as Minnesota United fell 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids at Allianz Field, dropping their home record to an underwhelming 2-2-2 this season.
After squandering a 2-1 lead in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Austin FC, Minnesota (6-4-3, 21 points) couldn't find their rhythm against a Colorado side that had managed just one goal in their previous four MLS matches. The Rapids (5-7-1, 16 points) did just enough to snatch all three points on the road.
The decisive moment came in the 26th minute when Rafael Navarro capitalized on some loose defending. Paxten Aaronson slipped past Owen Gene in midfield, and Jefferson Diaz's poor positioning left Navarro onside with plenty of space to beat goalkeeper Drake Callender.
Minnesota had their chances early. In the 12th minute, Joaquín Pereyra sparked a promising breakaway down the left flank for Kelvin Yeboah, but the striker gave the ball away while trying to shift to his favored right foot. The woodwork denied the Loons twice in the 29th minute—first James Rodriguez's shot from distance clattered off the upper left corner, then Anthony Markanich's follow-up also struck the frame.
Head coach Cameron Knowles rang the changes after Sunday's disappointing draw, making five alterations to the starting lineup. Among the notable moves was giving James Rodriguez his final start before departing for Colombia's World Cup preparations. The playmaker left the match in the 63rd minute, ending his MLS stint with no goals and two assists in 195 minutes across six appearances.
Michael Boxall also made his first start since the Loons' home opener on February 28, returning from an adductor injury that sidelined him for eight straight league games. The center back, who will join New Zealand for the World Cup, had appeared as a substitute in the previous two matches.
For Loons fans, the search for consistency at home continues as the team looks to turn Allianz Field back into a fortress before the season slips away.
