Green Bay Notre Dame hockey is turning to a familiar face to lead its program into a new era. After serving as a dedicated assistant coach since the team's return in 2006, Silverio Mirao has been named the new head coach of the Tritons.

Athletic Director Matthew Koenig conducted a thorough search, consulting players, parents, and program supporters. The feedback was clear and unanimous: the ideal candidate was already in the building. "When it was all said and done, there was unanimous support for our next head coach," Koenig stated, paving the way for Mirao's promotion.

For Mirao, this moment is the culmination of nearly two decades of commitment. "It’s exciting," he said. "I really thought about it three years ago, but just with work and family, it just didn’t seem like it was the right time. Now, I’m in a situation where it is." He inherits a program he helped build under coaches Cory McCracken and, most recently, Mike Szkodzinski.

Mirao's deep roots in Green Bay hockey trace back to his own standout playing days. Hailing from Burnaby, British Columbia, he was recruited to St. Norbert College by legendary coach Tim Coghlin. Mirao quickly became a star for the Green Knights, leading the team in scoring as a freshman, serving as captain, and finishing his career among the program's all-time scoring leaders.

This blend of high-level playing experience and nearly 20 years of institutional knowledge makes Mirao a perfect fit to steer the Tritons. His journey from Canadian recruit to local coaching staple is a testament to the deep hockey culture in the Green Bay area, a community that lives and breathes competitive spirit—on the ice and off.
