Longhorns football improves it's depth with Ivy League transfer

The Texas Longhorns' 2026 roster is taking its final shape, and head coach Steve Sarkisian has secured a savvy late addition to bolster the secondary. On Friday, former Brown University cornerback Nick Hudson committed to Texas, trading the Ivy League for the bright lights and fierce competition of the SEC.

Hudson brings valuable experience and proven production from his time with the Bears. Over four seasons, he logged 975 career snaps with ten starts, showcasing his versatility with nearly 200 snaps on special teams. The Houston native finished his Brown career with 52 total tackles and an impressive 13 pass breakups, demonstrating a nose for the football.

His breakout 2024 campaign is a major reason for Texas's interest. Starting all ten games, Hudson racked up 29 tackles and led the entire Ivy League with those 13 pass breakups, earning a spot on Phil Steele's Fourth Team All-Ivy. This level of play immediately made him a target once he entered the transfer portal.

Hudson's arrival is part of a focused defensive push for the Longhorns this offseason. He joins a recent influx of talent that includes former Michigan State standout Darius Snow and three-star recruit Brinley Tita. This added depth across the defense is crucial as Texas sets its sights on the ultimate prize: a national championship.

While transitioning to the SEC is a significant step up, Hudson is well-equipped for the challenge. He carries two years of starting experience and a notable football pedigree as the nephew of former Thorpe Award winner Chris Hudson. More importantly, he'll have the chance to develop under one of the nation's premier coaching staffs as he competes for playing time in a loaded defensive backfield.

With this key piece in place, Coach Sarkisian can now fully turn his attention to fall camp, preparing a talented and deep roster for what promises to be a thrilling 2026 season in Austin.
