The Carolina Hurricanes made a bold statement in Game 1 of their playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers, proving that rest was no match for their relentless momentum. After a week-long layoff, many expected the Hurricanes to come out sluggish. Instead, they stormed the ice at the Lenovo Center, collecting 10 of the game's first 11 shots and building an early 2-0 lead en route to a commanding 3-0 shutout victory.
Logan Stankoven, the 5-foot-8, 165-pound center with an outsized impact, once again set the tone. The 23-year-old second-round draft pick from 2021 delivered two goals and an assist, extending his playoff scoring streak to five games. With six goals in five postseason contests—matching his 21 regular-season tallies—Stankoven has become the engine driving Carolina's offense. The Hurricanes have yet to trail in any playoff game this year, outscoring opponents 14-5 and improving to a perfect 5-0.
"We had a good start, obviously. That's what won the game," head coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "After that, not much was happening." Brind'Amour praised Stankoven's consistency, noting, "His game hasn't changed, but now the pucks are going in. He puts in the work, so confidence has always been there."
Stankoven credited his linemates, Taylor Hall and Jackson Blake, for their chemistry. "I think it's just about getting your body ready and having a good mindset," he said. "My body felt good, my legs felt good. I don't expect to score every game. I just try to provide secondary scoring, and it's a lot of fun playing with Blaker and Hallsy."
For the Flyers, turnovers plagued their performance as they struggled to find rhythm against Carolina's sharp defensive structure. The Hurricanes' ability to stay focused after a long break underscores their championship mentality—and Stankoven's heroics are making them a team to watch this postseason.
