A major shift is underway in college basketball as Washington's floor general, Zoom Diallo, is officially taking his talents to the bluegrass state. The Tacoma native and former Curtis High School star has committed to the University of Kentucky, marking his first time playing organized basketball outside of Washington since his senior year of high school.
This move represents a significant step for the 6'5" sophomore guard, who declared last June that he returned to Washington to build a lasting legacy in his home state. Over two seasons as a Husky, Diallo proved to be a cornerstone of the program, starting 51 games. He finished the 2025-26 season as the team's second-leading scorer, averaging an impressive 15.7 points per game, while also dishing out a team-high 4.5 assists.
For Kentucky head coach Mark Pope, landing Diallo is a major first victory in the transfer portal this offseason. The Wildcats are acquiring a proven, high-caliber playmaker who has shown he can perform under pressure, having led his high school to back-to-back state championships. Diallo's combination of size, scoring, and court vision makes him an immediate impact player in the SEC.
Back in Seattle, Diallo's departure signals a new chapter for the Huskies. As the first starter from last year's squad to transfer, his exit creates a pivotal vacancy at the point guard position. Head coach Danny Sprinkle and his staff will now dive deep into the portal to find a new leader for their offense, turning the page on the Zoom Diallo era.
